Nigeria’s Emerging Leaders Delegation

Nigeria’s Emerging Leaders Delegation to London and Sheffield

Date: 17th – 24th November 2013 (London: 17th – 20th. Sheffield: 21st – 23rd)

A contingent of Emerging Leaders from across Nigeria would be visiting London and Sheffield for about 9days.

The Emerging Leaders Delegation program provides the opportunity for a select group of Young Nigerian leaders from across the nation to travel to the United Kingdom to engage with British leaders in the business, government, academic, non-profit and cultural sectors. The trip also allows the young and emerging leaders to gain a greater understanding of multi-cultural Britain through the experiences of a diverse group of Africans in Diaspora they would be interacting with. Delegates will also gain information about Britain’s economic, social and political development, as well as specific contextual information related to their field of work or studies.

During the exchange in the United Kingdom, the emerging leaders will meet with a variety of Britons to discuss creative ideas to advance the role of young people in addressing the challenges and opportunities they face civically, politically, and economically. The program will also provide the participants with tools and techniques to implement action plans for youth-led positive change, ranging from social media activism to entrepreneurship.

Delegates would also have an opportunity to interact with a lot of diaspora based young Nigerians and form partnership through which the diaspora can give back to the continent and participate in session facilitated in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University as well as a working visit to the Wentworth Hall Deer Farm for Agro-preneurs.

Participants are expected to be active in their communities, engaged in youth development elations and committed to fostering the development of their immediate community and Nigeria.

Upon their return, delegates are expected to run various post delegation activities individually or collectively, and to present a formal report about their experience. Also on return, delegates are expected to collaborate with program alumni, organisers and local and national community organizations to continue strengthening ties between Nigeria, Africa and its Diaspora.

Interested participants must be a graduate or currently enrolled in an academic institution (secondary or tertiary) and must demonstrate leadership achievement and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Delegates would be responsible for paying the participation fee of £2000 which covers their ground travel in the UK, activities, accommodations, comprehensive travel insurance, meals, and the £400 non-refundable admin charge. Please note this exclude flights.

The program is organised by AFARA the Bridge for Community Development and GLEEHD Foundation in collaboration with the Africa Foundation for Development and Goldmere Consulting UK. Amandla Consulting administers and assists with implementation of the program.
